In 2018, Astana celebrates its twentieth anniversary. The new capital of Kazakhstan marks its historic milestone: it looks back on the past and makes plans for the future. The rapid history of development and establishment of the city of the 21st century needs fixation. The unique experience of the city of the future requires artistic reflection.
Last year marked the first time a mural appeared on the facade of an apartment building in the capital of Kazakhstan. A 1970's photograph taken by N. Chernysh for a set of postcards about Tselinograd was recreated in the Saryarka district by the DOXA art-group, at the initiative of the mayor of Astana, Issekeshev A.O.
Continuing the successful experiment this year and to celebrate the capital's 20th anniversary, Astana city administration has decided to delight its citizens with more artistic facades.
The international jury and curators selected 26 sketches from more than 70 submitted applications; 7 murals were approved by popular vote. They have taken their rightful place in the public urban environment. In addition, according to numerous appeals of Astana residents, another sketch, much loved by the citizens, was included in the festival program.
